The Boys And Girls Club At Garnett Ridge

El verano pasado, yo fui a España para estudiar español y mejorar mi nivel de hablar la lengua. Fue un verano genial y mi nivel de hablar es mejor también. Cuando regresé a los estados unidos, yo quería seguir mejorando mi capacidad de hablar entonces buscaba para una clase que me permitiría seguir hablando regularmente. Encontré la clase SPAN4090 y supe que esta clase sería perfecta para mi.

Durante este semestre he pasado todo de mi tiempo como un voluntario en The Boys and Girls Club at Garnett Ridge. Cada dia el horario fue lo mismo mas o menos, pero llegaba al club a las tres de la tarde. Los niños llegaban al mismo tiempo y los primeros minutos ellos jugaban deportes o otros juegos en el patio trasero del club por 20 minutos. Despues, tenían bebidas y algo de comer y entonces ellos leían por 20-30 minutos y luego trabajaban en su tarea hasta que terminaran.

Mi trabajo consistía en ayudar a los niños con palabras que no sabían. Era mas facíl explicar a ellos los significados de las palabras en español. Traté de hablar con los niños en español todo el tiempo pero al primero los niños no me hablaban en español porque no estaban comodos conmigo todavía. Poco a poco, a medida que yo seguía hablando a ellos en español se hizo más cómodos conmigo y ellos hablaban más en su lengua nativa. La tarea que hicieron es muy basica entonces es facíl explicar a ellos en español como hacerla. Cuando los niños terminaran la tarea ellos jugaban en el patio trasero hasta las seis de la tarde.

My time spent at the Boys and Girls Club at Garnett Ridge was really an amazing time. I would go to the club for a few hours, two times a week and help the kids with their reading and then their homework. Homework and reading time would usually last around an hour and a half or two hours and then after that they would play games outside or play board games. At first, the kids avoid speaking Spanish to people they aren't very comfortable with, but as time passed and as I continued to speak Spanish to them, they became more comfortable and spoke more Spanish with me and allowed me to practice and improve.
